Why I quit coffee ✨

It has now been 4 months since I last drank coffee! ☕️ Working as a barista for 7 years I grew accustomed to my ‘3/4 full double shot latte’ 3 times a day. But after spending a lot of time researching my PCOS and the unfortunate hormonal acne it gives me… I went on a hunt to discover ways to ‘calm down’ my nervous and hormonal systems🤷‍♀️

I was horrified to discover that coffee actually increased your stress hormones (cortisol and adrenaline) which actually recreates acute stress in the body. Meaning that having that coffee actually makes your body stressed! And that during a stressful period having that coffee to get you through, actually adds to your total stress amount and can lead you to greater fatigue 💔

But I thought coffee had healthy antioxidants? That is true, it does. It actually has the highest amount but it also leaks diterpenes. And these have been linked to higher levels of LDL (bad cholesterol)💔

Whilst I’m sure 1 coffee a day wouldn’t kill me, my body seemed to be in a fair amount of distress. Inflamed skin and hormones was enough for me to say good bye 👋 to my stress-creating love that is coffee, in an attempt to ease some of my symptoms 💕 4 months later and after trying many foods and skin care hacks and altering my diet and health completely, including my coffee cut, my skin is looking so much better and healthier and is very much on the way to recovery! I still have a little way to go, but I’m proud of my progress ☺️

For all that know me, will know that I now sport a green tea with me every where I go, which is packed with healthy antioxidants, boosts brain function and increases metabolism. Drinking between 3-5 cups a day has been shown to increase metabolism and to help you lose weight! Sometimes it’s the little changes that matter the most 💫

Be better, be the change.
Love Steph x
